We live in Norway, but December still tastes Polish
We can live here five, ten or twenty years.
We can fall in love with brunost, learn to bake Norwegian cookies and spend the holidays among snow, mountains and Norwegian traditions.
And then December comes.
And suddenly we start looking for poppy-seed cake.
Carp.
Good bread.
Herring.
Borscht.
Small dumplings.
Polish dumplings.
Cold meats that taste just as we remember.
Not because Norwegian products are worse. Simply some flavors are part of our own history.
One of the places that for years has helped Poles find them in Norway is the BAZA stores.
Today they operate in three locations: Oslo, Lillestrøm i Drammen, and all three can also be found in the TwojaNorwegia business directory with addresses and map locations. See the BAZA stores in the TwojaNorwegia business directory
BAZA did not appear yesterday
The history of this place is much longer than the current three locations.
We wrote about the BAZA shop on Wataha.no already in 2018, when it was still operating in Moss. In that piece we described Polish bread, baked goods, products needed for traditional dishes as well as things that Poles living abroad simply look for out of sentiment and habit. Later the Moss shop was moved to Oslo. TwojaNorwegia also covered this story in a piece about BAZA Oslo, noting that operations in Moss began back in 2012, and the Oslo location has been operating since 2023. The history of BAZA Oslo on TwojaNorwegia (available in Polish)
Today the brand is already present in three cities.
This shows something more than the growth of a shop.
It shows that Polish products have regular customers in Norway and are part of the everyday life of our community.
Fresh deliveries from Poland every Friday
The holidays are a special time, but BAZA isn't only about December.
In June 2026 on Wataha.no we again showcased the three BAZA stores. In the current piece we drew attention, among other things, to Friday deliveries of fresh products from Poland, during which further batches of bread, cold cuts, dairy, vegetables, fruits and other products known from Polish shops arrive. Polish shops in Norway – the taste of home that is always close
Before Christmas these deliveries become even more important.
Because then we are no longer just looking for products for an ordinary dinner.
We look for what should be on the Christmas Eve table.
Carp. One fish, so many emotions
There are families who cannot imagine Christmas Eve without it.
There are also those who would gladly erase it from the holiday menu forever.
But one thing is hard to dispute.
The carp is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Polish Christmas Eve.
That is why before the holidays it is also one of the products BAZA's customers ask about most often.
In previous seasons the stores organized several deliveries before Christmas Eve so that a customer would not have to buy the fish far in advance.
We will add the specific delivery dates for Christmas 2026 here when they are confirmed by BAZA.
We do not want to publish approximate dates.
If we provide a delivery day, it should be information on which the reader can actually base their holiday shopping.
Polish Christmas Eve doesn't end with the carp
There are probably as many holiday tables in Polish homes as there are families themselves.
In some households fried carp reigns.
In others, cod, hake or another fish.
Some cannot imagine Christmas Eve without herring, others start the dinner with borscht with dumplings.
Still others obligatorily have pierogi or mushroom soup.
That's why at a Polish shop before the holidays, it's not just one fish that matters.
We also need:
fish and processed fish products,
products for borscht,
small mushroom dumplings and filled dumplings,
sauerkraut,
dried fruit and nuts,
spices,
baking ingredients,
Polish sweets,
drinks and ingredients needed for family recipes.
And very often it's about exactly the product that mom or grandma used.
Polish sourdough bread thousands of kilometers from Poland
Bread is one of the products emigrants miss particularly often.
It's not just about bread as such.
It's about the crispy crust.
The scent when sliced.
The taste of the sourdough.
That a slice of bread with butter tastes exactly as we remember it.
Fresh bread and pastries have for years been an important part of BAZA's offer. We already wrote about bread, rolls, sweet buns and doughnuts in the first Wataha materials devoted to this store.
Before the holidays a second category comes into play.
Cheesecake and poppy seed cake.
Of course you can bake them yourself.
And many families do exactly that.
But after a whole week of work in Norway not everyone feels like spending the following hours at the oven.
Sometimes you just want to put a Polish baked good on the table and sit down with the family.
The holiday shelf can transport someone back a dozen years
There is also something that cannot be measured in kilos or kroner.
You enter the shop.
You look at the shelf.
And you see a product you haven't eaten for several years.
Familiar gingerbread.
A chocolate Santa.
The spice that your mother always bought.
The sweets you received under the Christmas tree as a child.
It's a small thing.
But it is precisely from such small things that life abroad is often made.
That does not mean a person lives in the past.
You can feel great in Norway, be part of the local society and at the same time smile at the sight of a label remembered from childhood.

If you don't yet know a shop in your area, you can go to the TwojaNorwegia business directory, switch the view to the map and check the location. BAZA Oslo, Lillestrøm and Drammen in the TwojaNorwegia directory
In our system, ultimately these three names should also be linked in the content via a Internal Link to the specific BAZA listings, so that each language version of the article opens the appropriate version of the listing without manually entering the URL.
Why are we even writing about a Polish shop?
Because TwojaNorwegia is not meant to be only a place where we check taxes, NAV or regulations.
The Polish community also includes our businesses.
Shops.
Schools.
Restaurants.
Workshops.
Services.
Organizations.
And the people who create them.
A Polish shop may look like an ordinary retail business, but for a community living far from the country it often serves a broader function.
Someone will meet a friend.
Someone will ask about a product in Polish.
Someone will find out that a fresh delivery has just arrived.
Someone has just moved to Norway and, for the first time in months, will buy something they truly know.
That's why in our TwojaNorwegia business directory we also show businesses created for and by the Polish community. See companies run by Poles operating in Norway
BAZA on Wataha and TwojaNorwegia. We showcase businesses for years, not in a single post
BAZA is a good example of how we want to showcase Polish businesses.
Not a single advertising post and that's it.
The first pieces about the shop appeared on Wataha many years ago. Wataha archival feature about BAZA
In 2026 we returned to BAZA, showing the current three locations and regular deliveries. Current Wataha feature about BAZA shops
And on TwojaNorwegia, the shops have their own entries in the business directory, where the user can also find them on the map.
This is how local information should work.
The article tells the story and showcases the offer. The business profile lets you find the company. Further mentions update the information.
We will update this article before the holidays
We don't want to publish another text under a new address every year and start from scratch.
This article will be updated.
When BAZA confirms the details of the 2026 holiday season, the following will be posted here:
carp delivery dates,
special holiday deliveries,
information about baked goods,
shopping Sundays,
opening hours on Christmas Eve,
closure days during the Christmas and New Year period.
This way the reader has one address where they can always check the latest information.
Because the holidays in Norway don't have to taste different
You can spend Christmas Eve near Oslo.
In Drammen.
In Lillestrøm.
Or hundreds of kilometres from your hometown in Poland.
That does not change what we want to have on the table.
You don't have to recreate every detail of the holidays from twenty years ago.
But if it is precisely the smell of borscht, fresh bread or poppy-seed cake that makes a home really feel festive, it's good to know where to look for it.
BAZA is one of those places.
Polish.
Close.
Familiar.
And at the same time having for years been part of our life here in Norway.
Editorial comment TwojaNorwegia
Integration does not require giving up your culture. We can be part of Norway and at the same time nurture the Polish language, cuisine and family traditions.
That is why we highlight places like BAZA. Polish companies in Norway are not just businesses. They are also part of the stories of the people who live here, work here, raise children and build their lives.
Information status verified: 23 September 2026.
