How to read the result
Under ordinary taxation you pay 22% tax on income after deductions (minimum standard deduction and personal allowance), progressive bracket tax on gross income, and national insurance. Bracket tax rises step by step — each higher rate only applies to the part of income in that bracket.
PAYE (kildeskatt på lønn) is a simplified scheme for some foreign workers: a flat rate on gross pay, no deductions and no tax return. It can pay off at higher incomes, but is often more expensive at lower incomes.
Feriepenger is holiday pay earned on the previous year's salary. The percentage depends on your contract but cannot be below the statutory minimum.
Why does my payslip differ from the result?
Your employer withholds tax according to your tax deduction card, and in June usually pays holiday pay instead of part of your salary. The calculator shows an annual average.
Am I on PAYE?
PAYE applies, among others, to people in their first year of tax residence or on short stays, with income below the limit. Skatteetaten decides when issuing your tax deduction card.
Does the calculator store my data?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser; amounts are not sent to a server or to analytics.
