About the position
At Institutt for bygg, energi og materialteknologi (IBEM) there is a vacant permanent, 100% position as either a university lecturer or a university college lecturer within the field of water and wastewater technology (VA). The position is affiliated with the research group BEaM (Building, Energy and Material Technology).
The core activities of the institute are education, research and dissemination within building-related engineering disciplines. The institute's overall objective is to contribute to the sustainable development of the region and the northern areas. The institute delivers engineering expertise to the construction industry at national and international levels, with a strong connection to the industry in the region. The institute is located in Narvik, but currently offers decentralized engineering education both in Alta and Tromsø, as well as online-based educations. The institute has approx. 400 students distributed across bachelor and master programmes.
The institute offers, among other things:
- professional education programmes at master and bachelor level
- flexible qualification schemes for admission to engineering education
- PhD education within building and energy subjects
- research projects
- commercial laboratory services and contract research for industry. Some examples of this are material testing and classification, thermography and airtightness testing of buildings, acoustic measurements and indoor climate surveys
- continuing education courses
- facilitation and organization of professional courses, seminars and conferences
The research group BEaM (Building, Energy and Material Technology) works on sustainable solutions within building and energy technology. The research group has a significant portfolio of ongoing research projects together with national and international partners.
You will report to the head of the institute at IBEM.

Work and research area
The position shall primarily contribute to covering teaching and supervision at the bachelor level. Some participation in R&D activities within practical VA-technology can be expected. For the job category university college lecturer, employees shall as a main rule use 90% of the time for teaching and 10% of the time for professional updating.
This position is academically linked to the programme
- Bachelor in Civil Engineering
The following sub-areas are of special interest:
- planning and construction of the technical components in VA systems
- design and engineering of the technical elements in VA systems
- operation and maintenance of VA facilities
- overview of laws and regulations within VA-technology, including especially
- The Drinking Water Regulations
- The Pollution Regulations
The person appointed must also expect to take care of tasks related to the implementation of bachelor theses, as well as active participation in the institute's other activities. The person appointed will be responsible for ensuring that this is carried out in accordance with the university's applicable guidelines at all times.
IBEM has a close collaboration with the construction industry locally and nationally. The collaboration shall be further developed and maintained so that the programme is relevant and can meet the construction industry's needs. It is assumed that the person appointed will contribute to this work.
The position includes the right and duty to conduct R&D work (depending on job category) in accordance with what is customary at universities in Norway. The R&D work at the institute is mainly organized in separate R&D groups. The person appointed will be affiliated with a relevant research group, based on subject area and interests as well as the institute's R&D strategy.

It is expected that the person appointed participates in research group collaboration and professional networks nationally and internationally, as well as in dissemination of research to a broader public. Application writing (NFR/EU) is expected of the position holder.

Qualifications
You must qualify for a position as a university lecturer or university college lecturer within the field of water and wastewater technology in
accordance with the requirements stated in Regulations to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges (the university and university college regulations)
To meet the qualification requirements for this position at minimum the following is required:
- For the position as university lecturer: Master's degree or equivalent within water and wastewater technology
- For the position as university college lecturer: Bachelor's degree within a relevant field and relevant professional or teaching experience
- Relevant professional or teaching experience from university/college
- Competence and experience within the field of water and wastewater technology. The following sub-areas are of special interest:
- Planning of VA systems
- Design of VA systems
- Operation and maintenance of VA facilities
- Documented educational professional competence, can be acquired, see information in the section below
- The language of instruction is Norwegian, and the applicant must have a proficiency level in Norwegian equivalent to a native Norwegian speaker. You must document skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian language at a minimum level of C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Good knowledge of English, orally and in writing

Requirements for educational professional competence
All applicants for teaching and research positions must document their educational professional competence in the application.

University lecturers are paid according to the state salary scale code 1009 with a gross annual salary in a 100% position between NOK 560000- 890000,-. University college lecturers are paid according to the state salary scale code 1009 with a gross annual salary in a 100% position between NOK 540000-830000,-. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. From the gross salary a 2% mandatory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted.
At UiT the distribution of working time is flexible and allocated on an individual basis. As a norm university lecturers will use up to 20% of the time for R&D work and 80% for teaching, when time for other tasks is deducted. As a norm 5% is allocated to administrative tasks. For university college lecturers the main principle applies that each employee in this job category uses 90% of the time for teaching and 10% of the time for professional updating.
Assessment of applicants
The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee's mandate is to assess the applicants' qualifications on the basis of the application documents and the announcement text.
Applicants who are considered to be best qualified will be invited to an interview. The interview shall among other things clarify personal suitability and motivation for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.
