About the position

The communications platform is part of the foundation for the police's digital services. It shall ensure that services are available to the right users, while traffic is directed, controlled and protected. We are looking for someone who is motivated by this complexity. You understand how network, security, platform and applications work together, and know what is required to develop solutions that must be stable and secure over time. With us you will work with a large hybrid infrastructure, high requirements for availability and security and technical dependencies that span our own data centres and the cloud.

As Platform Engineer you will be part of the team that develops, manages and operates the police communications platform. The team is responsible for secure external access to and publication of services and applications. An important part of the task is to make the platform more standardised, automated and self-service, so that development teams can deliver faster without compromising security or control.

You will both delve into demanding technical issues and influence how the platform should be developed further. This is a role for someone who likes to understand the entire traffic flow, find the cause when complex solutions do not function as expected, and translate operational experience into lasting improvements and code.

You will be part of the Section for Infrastructure, a professional environment of around 90 employees who work in cross-disciplinary teams with shared responsibility, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Although we primarily recruit to Team Communications Platform, the structure is flexible, and changes in teams or tasks may occur as needs change.

At Politiets IT-enhet we are over 850 employees. We create value for citizens, partners and colleagues in the police. As part of the police's important societal mission, we shall prevent and combat crime, create safety and safeguard the rule of law. We are at work for a safe Norway.

Responsibilities

The tasks will vary with the needs of the team and the development of the platform. Typical tasks are to:

  • develop, automate and operate platform services for secure external access and publishing
  • develop and manage solutions for traffic management, load balancing, reverse proxy and external DNS in own data centres and Azure
  • describe and manage infrastructure and configuration as code using, among other things, Terraform, Python and Crossplane
  • develop standardised and reusable solutions that make it easier for other teams to publish services securely
  • troubleshoot complex problems, analyse incidents and implement lasting improvements across network, platform and application
  • establish good monitoring and documentation, share knowledge and advise teams that use the platform services

Your workplace will be at Majorstuen.

Qualifications

  • Relevant higher education within IT at minimum bachelor level. Long and relevant experience can compensate for lack of formal education
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience with development, automation or operation of network, communication or application platforms
  • Practical experience with Nginx-based (or equivalent) solutions in both local environments and cloud, including load balancing and reverse proxy
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation using Terraform, Python, Crossplane or equivalent
  • Good understanding of Linux, networking and web technologies, and experience with systematic troubleshooting across platform and application
  • Knowledge of and experience with protocols such as TCP, TLS and HTTP, including troubleshooting these
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian and English. Our working language is Norwegian
